Northport seniors learn about healthy aging

September 30, 2024

University Medical Center in Northport presented “Healthy Aging” to members of the Northport community in September as part of its first Sessions for Seniors program.

The one-hour session for those 50 years of age and older provided information about healthy aging, including ways to manage blood pressure, check glucose levels and create and maintain a healthy diet. The session was led by Dr. Robbin Young, UMC’s chief nursing officer, as well as UMC nurses Sandra Watson and Dimetra Rollins.

“We want to better support our community since we have a clinic here in Northport,” Young said. “We thought it would be a good idea to come out and do mini sessions with our seniors on health education and to give them guidance on what they should be asking when visiting their primary care provider.”

Young said she hopes to provide monthly Sessions for Seniors at UMC-Northport and to also offer them at UMC clinics in Tuscaloosa, Carrollton, Demopolis, Fayette and Livingston. The program is open to UMC patients and the public.

UMC-Northport is accepting new patients of all ages. Call (205) 348-6700 to schedule an appointment. Located at 6205 Jemison Lane, the clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8:30AM-4:45PM.
