UMC, WVUA Partner to Host Virtual Town Halls

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, University Medical Center and WVUA have partnered to provide the West Alabama community with information and resources from UMC health experts through virtual town halls that started April 10.

The virtual town halls will take place every Friday on UMC’s Facebook page at 2 p.m. and will be hosted by Dr. Tom Weida, chief medical officer at UMC. The first town hall will focus on COVID-19 and primary care.

“UMC town halls will provide important updates about the COVID-19 pandemic and what we are doing at University Medical Center to care for those impacted, either directly or indirectly, by the COVID-19 outbreak,” said Dr. Richard Friend, dean of UA’s College of Community Health Sciences. “In addition, we will help answer questions from our patients and community members.”

Future town halls will cover a variety of topics, including how COVID-19 impacts pediatric, psychiatry and geriatric care, among others.

“We feel it’s important, during this time, for University Medical Center to provide a venue for our patients and the community to receive important and factual information, on a regular basis, from friendly faces and familiar voices,” said Friend.

Questions for UMC physicians can be submitted online before each town hall.
