In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, University Medical Center and WVUA 23 have partnered to provide the West Alabama community with important information and resources from UMC health experts through weekly virtual town halls that started April 10, 2021.
There were four UMC Town Halls in January:
- COVID-19 Vaccines, with guest Dr. Richard Friend, dean of UA’s College of Community Health Sciences, which operates UMC.
- COVID-19 and Long-Term Health Effects, with guest Dr. Tamer Elsayed, a family medicine physician at University Medical Center and director of the UA Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program, which is operated by CCHS.
- A COVID-19 Update, with guest Dr. Tom Weida, UMC’s chief medical officer and professor of family medicine at CCHS.
- COVID-19 and Campus Safety Guidelines for 2021, with guest Dr. Myron Pope, vice president of UA’s Division of Student Life
