Improving the patient experience
I am pleased to share with you a new feature that University Medical Center has rolled out to elevate the patient experience. UMC now offers patients a way to pay and manage their health care bills online – easily and securely.
This new service, which was introduced in April, also allows patients to save their payment and health care information in a secure digital wallet. And it lets patients view their payment history at any time.

This is just the beginning. Next up is online check-in for patient appointments. We are currently in the testing phase of this new feature, which we hope to implement very soon.
We will follow this initiative with planned upgrades to our Patient Portal that will enable patients to navigate that system more easily and quickly access all of their available health information.
Our telephone system and service are being enhanced, particularly at UMC in Tuscaloosa. The goal is that when existing and new patients call UMC, they reach a person and have their needs promptly met. And we are continuing to refine our processes to lessen the time it takes to schedule appointments at UMC, especially for new patients, and to decrease the time patients spend in the waiting room.
These improvements align with the experiences our patients want and deserve. We value the input we have received from our patients, and we take your feedback very seriously.
At UMC, we not only want to minimize barriers to care, but we want to enrich the patient experience. We know that a better patient experience means better patient health outcomes.
