Dr. Harriet Myers, a clinical psychologist and former faculty member with the College of Community Health Sciences, has returned to a part-time clinical practice with University Medical Center, which the College operates. Myers received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia, and a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She received her doctorate in psychology from The University of Alabama.
Throughout her career, Myers has concentrated on teaching and practicing in health care. She has held positions in administration in nursing and medical schools and conducted a private practice locally during the 1990s. She has also provided leadership to groups utilizing mindfulness principles with individuals with chronic illnesses and to those experiencing relapse of addictive behaviors. She has conducted mindfulness training for nurses, physicians and other health care providers to improve their personal well-being and their professional practice.
