November is National Diabetes Awareness Month

According to the American Diabetes Association, approximately 14.4% of adults in Alabama are diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic health condition that limits the body from making insulin, which releases the sugar in your blood into your body’s cells to be used for energy. There are two types of diabetes: Type 1, in which the body produces little or no insulin; and Type 2, which affects how the body processes blood sugar. Diabetes can lead to serious health issues, including heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and even death. Exercise, a healthy diet and regular checkups with your primary care doctor can help keep diabetes under control. Learn more at American Diabetes Association website.
