Dr. Hannah Bowers and Dr. Anne-Laura Cook joined University Medical Center clinics in Demopolis and Northport.
Bowers will care for patients at UMC-Demopolis as a part-time family medicine-obstetrics physician. She also joins the College of Community Health Sciences, which operates UMC, as assistant professor in the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. Bowers attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed medical school at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine. She graduated from the UAB Huntsville family Medicine Residency in Huntsville, Ala., and is a recent graduate of the College’s Family Medicine Obstetrics Fellowship.
Cook will care for patients as an internal medicine physician at UMC-Northport. She also joins the College as assistant professor in the Department of Family, Internal, and Rural Medicine. Prior to joining CCHS, Cook was chief medical officer of Post Acute Care for Ascension Illinois in Chicago. She is a graduate of The University of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Marnix E. Heersink School of Medicine, and the Harvard School of Public Health in Cambridge, Mass. Cook brings to the College extensive experience in post-acute and population health care and has worked collaboratively with physicians and health system partners to improve the overall health of communities and to ensure that care is received in appropriate settings. She also has interests and experience in clinical informatic and data analytics, clinical documentation improvement, utilization management and peer review. Her previous roles have included medical director at VIVA Health and executive director of Population Health and Innovation at Brookwood Baptist Health in Birmingham, Ala.
