Ray Stewart, MD, was born and raised in Phenix City, Ala. He graduated from The University of Alabama, magna cum laude, in 2000 with a BS in biology. He was accepted into the Rural Medical Scholars Program in 2002. Stewart also earned an MS in biology and an MA in health studies in 2003. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2007. He then completed his residency training at the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency in 2010. During his residency, Stewart was awarded the William R. Willard Award for best intern and the Internal Medicine Award for interns in 2007. He served as a chief resident from 2009 to 2010.

After graduation, he was recognized with the Resident Teacher Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. Dr. Stewart was selected as the first fellow for the Dr. Patrick Trammell Excellence in Sports Medicine Program at The University of Alabama. During his fellowship, he served as team physician for Hillcrest High School and Shelton State Community College. Additionally, he assisted Drs. Robinson, Buettner and Laubenthal in many events at The University of Alabama.

Dr. Stewart completed his fellowship in 2011. He now serves as a team physician for Stillman College and also covers Pickens County High School, Gordo High School, Aliceville High School, and Sipsey Valley High School. He is married with 3 children and lives in Tuscaloosa.
