Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner


Dr. Kay Scott is a dual-certified family nurse practitioner and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner with UMC in Tuscaloosa and cares for patients of its Betty Shirely Clinic. She has a strong background in primary care, mental health, dual diagnosis, addiction recovery and urgent care. In addition to her clinical work, Scott is a clinical assistant professor at The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing, where she teaches and mentors future nurses. Her research interests focus on mental health, therapeutic communication, and innovative strategies in nursing education. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Psychiatric Nurses Association and the Alabama State Nurses Association. Scott earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from August University in Georgia and completed her PMHNP certification at UA. She is also a certified trainer in mental health first aid and is also trained in emotional connection, empowerment and revitalization (eCPR).
