
Ray Stewart, MD
Physician
Dr. Stewart was born and raised in Phenix City, AL. He graduated from The University of Alabama, magna cum laude, in 2000 with a BS in biology. He was accepted into the Rural Medical Scholars Program in 2002. Prior to entering medical school, he earned an MS in biology and an MA in health studies in 2003. He graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 2007 and completed his residency training at the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency in 2010. He served as a chief resident from 2009 to 2010.
After graduation, Dr. Stewart was selected as the first fellow for the Dr. Patrick Trammell Excellence in Sports Medicine Program at The University of Alabama. After completion of his fellowship in 2011, he entered private practice in Gordo, AL for four years. He previously served as team physician for Sipsey Valley High School (2011-2022), Pickens County High School (2011-2015), Aliceville High School (2011-2015), and Stillman College (2011-2015).
Dr. Stewart returned to CCHS in 2016 as an assistant professor in the department of Family, Internal Medicine, and Rural Medicine. He currently serves as the clinic director for sports medicine and program director for the primary care sports medicine fellowship. In addition, he is the medical director for the University athletics program and head team physician for football and women’s basketball. He and his wife Jennifer have three children and currently reside in Northport.
