UMC Pediatrics Clinic Recognized as Patient-Centered Medical Home

April 2, 2021

The Pediatrics Clinic at University Medical Center in Tuscaloosa was nationally certified in March as a Patient-Centered Medical Home in recognition of its commitment to place patients at the forefront of care, and to continuously advance quality in the healthcare it provides.

The certification was granted by the National Committee on Quality Assurance, an organization that works to improve the quality of U.S. health care.

NCQA recognition means medical practices are committed to providing care that is patient-centered, accessible, continuous, comprehensive and coordinated, and that focuses on quality. The PCMH model uses a team of clinical providers that delivers coordinated and integrated care and that is proactive in providing preventive, wellness and chronic illness care – all with the patient at the center of the health-care experience.

Research shows that the PCMH model builds better relationships between patients and their clinical care teams.
